Subject: A Wonderful Experience!
I was one of the lucky ones to attend this show, a small informal "tour party" show while the DNB vacationed and played in Hawaii.
I noticed the ad on the DNB home page that tickets were available... I was taking a weeks vacation from work, and I saw that this show was happening that day. I decided to drive the two or three miles down the road and check out the show. Tickets were about a hundred bucks, but I figured I was on vacation, and loved the David Nelson stuff I had heard, so why the heck not?

I must note here that the tickets for the other DNB shows were only $20.

About 3:30 that afternoon after getting tickets from the wonderful promoters Mark & Sheila, I sat outside high, waiting in anticipation. It was a beautiful day!
Most of the people there were from the David Nelson Family and tour party. It was really a "private" gig!

David Gans opened with a long floating solo that incorporated elements of St. Stephen, China Cat, Dark Star, and nearly any other song you love and remember. It was a call to mass. David played a nice set, eventually ending up with Barry Sless, Mookie Siegel, David Nelson ect.. joining in with Gans playing songs like "Hippie From Hawaii" "Sultans Of Swing" and "Let It Rock"! It was a wonderful experience!
( Sadly, some of this set is missing from this recording.) I believe the Nelson Band did some other stuff electric too. I also remember David doing The Ballad Of Frankie Lee & Judas Priest, (one of my favorite Dylan songs). This was a long show!

Next Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum came on, as a fun day with the DNB. They are recording bluegrass
musicians who were in town staying at the same hotel as the DNB. They played a great set!

The DNB then had a set by the Brown Chicken, Brown Cow String band. Nelson and band joined in with Brown Chicken Brown Cow and Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum on a jam of "Friend Of The Devil">..! It was a remarkable jam! The crowd went wild!

Next up was most of the last set. I say "most" because I remember them playing more songs. I remember hearing "The Ballad Of Frankie Lee & Judas Priest" and "Chestnut Mare" played by Nelson. I think there were other songs as well, but I stood near where the mics were and there were some distractions. There was a guy blissfully tripping on acid near where one of the mics and wiring were located. They having some problems problems and fooling around with the mics then and missed some songs. It was not the fault of the "tripping guy" though.
I and people who were with the band monitored his condition. He was fine, but anyone next to the wiring and cables were aware, They had already had problems. In spite of this the sound guys just had to fidget around a little.. and missed some songs though. The mics were placed perfectly, but shit happens, they had problems and what are ya gonna do?

These recordings capture most of the heart and soul of that wonderful day!

The show started around half-past three in the afternoon and ended a little before 9:00 pm, over five-and-a-half hours of music, with a couple fairly short set breaks. It was an afternoon/evening I will always remember!
Thanks for posting this show!
Hope to see these guys in 2011!
